New to SL? Confused as to what to get to look good? Unsure where to go to get good sales?
It is not hard to look good in SL with a little bit know how and keeping an eye open for sales and events witch offer discounts. Flickr is a great place to see various bloggers and designers and to see what is new and on sale.
In Second Life there is no shortage of sales and special weekend promotions from hair, to skins, to clothes, accessories, makeup etc. All you need to do to build yourself a cute and functional wardrobe for your avatar is to be in a few sales groups. My faves are Fifty Linden Fridays, The Saturday Sale, SoKawaiiSundays, and Happy Weekend by Access. You can find these in Seraphimsl.com. Now, there are more sale groups and they are certainly worth checking out, but those are the ones where I find consistently the styles I like and some amazing deals.
You should also get yourself into your favorite designers in-world groups. These have fees sometimes to join, but some are very much worth it. For example, Truth Hair has a join fee for the VIP group, but you do get free full packs of hairs about once a month. Lelutka, whose heads are just amazing, easy to use and lovely to work with, have no group join fee and have offered FREE mesh bento heads over the holidays twice already, so I'd say that's one worth joining for sure! LOGO has been doing promos on their heads as well. They really broke ground with basically one of the first mesh heads around (which I promptly ran out to buy back in the day!). Genus has also had gifts in the past, as well as Catwa and other head makers.
Some also offer discounts when your wear your group tag on purchases made in their in-world store, and some offer credits as a gift so you can purchase something you like.
In my in-world group, I send out regular gifts and let folks know of sales and events, so it is worth it to join those groups of creators you like. And, of course, a little patience goes a long way. If you don't have a big budget, go week by week and work on getting a few pieces at a time, and before you know it you will have lots of outfits and looks you can put together.
Here is an example... this cute outfit I put together was done via all the weekend sales. Even the head from Lelutka, Kaya, was a group gift for the holidays at the beginning of the year. (The body is Maitreya, and that was purchased by me, not a sale or gift and the hair was purchased a a slight discount at an event.)
head - Lelutka Kaya 3.1 (free gift during the holidays)
body - Maitreya-Lara
hair - WINGS ER0305
