Flickr is a great place to see  various bloggers and designers and to see what is new and on sale.   In Second Life there is no shortage of sales and special weekend promotions from hair, to skins, to clothes, accessories, makeup etc. All you need to do to build yourself a cute and functional wardrobe for your avatar is to be in a few sales groups. My faves are Fifty Linden Fridays, The Saturday Sale, SoKawaiiSundays, and Happy Weekend by Access.
